BEVERLY -- Hempstead Stadium was packed with fans cheering for their Gulls as Endicott football took on The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The stands were a sea of white as students dressed to show Endicott pride and unity. Energy pulsed through the campus as the Gulls took the field and sophomore, Maree Donaghy, sang the National Anthem.
Endicott kicked off to TCNJ Lions, who scored a touchdown in their first series. Quickly recovering, Endicott’s quarterback Clayton Marengi (Junior) led a fast series in the second quarter, leading to a touchdown by Anthony Bracamonte (Senior). The game was tied at the half, 7-7.
After another strong drive, Marengi threw to Everett Knowlton III (Sophomore) for a 26-yard touchdown, the Gulls taking the lead.
Endicott’s defense had several sacks and stops, working hard to keep TCNJ to one touchdown. Jackson DeAngelo (Senior) and Hector Johnson (Sophomore) had sacks in the game. Colin Meropoulos (Junior) had one force and one recovery. The Endicott defense recovered a missed snap by the Lions offense, Yavier Cosme-Diaz (Sophomore) running it in for a touchdown. With three minutes left of the game, Zachariah Twardosky (Junior) picked off TCNJ for another 6 for Endicott.
All four extra points were good for Ryan Smith (Junior). An interception by Joseph Pagett (Senior) ended the game, allowing Endicott to take the win, 28-7.
The team is now 3-0– a great start to their 2022 season. Come cheer on the Gulls this Saturday, Sept. 24, at 12 noon as they take on Norwich University at home.
