Even though it may not feel like spring outside, four out of the five sports have now begun conference play for the 2017 season.
The Women’s lacrosse team also began conference play 2-0, starting with a matchup against Roger Williams at home. Freshman Meghan Dutchyshyn lead the Gulls with five goals. Defensively, Sophomore Bella Rino in her debut start in goal made ten saves en route to her first collegiate victory. The Gulls also traveled to The University of New England for their second conference matchup. The Gulls defeated the Nor’easters, by a score of 18-11. Freshman Jennifer Lacroix scored six goals and had one assist to lead the Gulls to victory.
The Men’s Lacrosse team has begun conference play 2-0. The Gulls began with a matchup at home against Roger Williams. They took the contest 15-10 behind hat tricks from seniors Colin Bannon and Will Jennings. Bannon also had two assists while Jennings added one. Also contributing to the victory was Bryan McManus who had two goals and two assists. Defensively, Grant Thompson had eight saves in his first victory of the season. The Gulls then traveled to The University of New England for their second conference matchup. They scored up only one going into the final quarter, the Gulls scored five goals to push them to victory. Jennings lead the Gulls with six goals, while Thompson had 13 saves.
The Men’s baseball team has started conference play 1-1 after splitting a doubleheader with Eastern Nazarene. The Gulls started off the day with a 4-0 victory. Junior right fielder Michael Casciano got the Gulls started with a solo homerun in the top of second, junior Michael DeDonato then drove in the Gulls second run with a triple, he also added another RBI after driving in junior Nick Berno. On the mound for the Gulls was sophomore Kevin Gould. Gould pitched five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and only allowed three-hits and one walk. In the second game, the Lions got off to a hot start scoring two runs in the top of the first and they never looked back tacking the game 4-2. For Endicott, grad student Anthony Serina was a bright spot going 3-4 in the game with a double.
The Men’s tennis team began their conference season 1-0. They traveled to Western New England and secured a 9-0 victory over the Golden Bears. Freshman Jack DeRizzo, Charles Book, and Justin Toler all secured their first two conference victories of the season as they all won both their singles and doubles matches. Toler paired up with junior Chris Kirkpatrick at number one doubles and secured an 8-4 victory. He then went out at number two singles and defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-2. DeRizzo and Book paired up together at number three doubles and earned an 8-1 victory. Book then took his number three singles match 6-4, 6-0 and DeRizzo took his number five singles match 6-1, 6-2. Adding the freshman successes was Thomas Brent who also earned his first conference victory with the only shutout of the match a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles.
