Men's Volleyball Championship Huddle

For the fifth straight season the Endicott Men’s Volleyball team claimed the New England Collegiate Conference Title. After going undefeated in the conference through the season the Gulls were able pick up the #1 seed in the NECC tournament. They downed Newbury College in the semi-finals three sets to none on their way to hosting the NECC Championship against Elms College. The team beat Elms two times during the regular season, winning six out of seven sets in total. In the Championship it was no different, as the team swept Elms and went on to win their fifth straight title and earn an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. At the end of the NECC tournament the Gulls saw three members announced onto the All-Tournament Team. These included freshman phenomenon Bryn Lipton, sophomore libero Ryan Healy, and senior Daniel Toth who was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

During the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, the team got slotted as hosting No. 7 Stevens in the first round of the tournament. Earlier in the season the two teams met as the match went five sets and favored Stevens in the end. In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Endicott was faced with slowing down the aggressive offense of Stevens. The first two sets went in favor of Stevens but the Gulls came alive in the third set. As the Gulls took the third set 25-18 the MacDonald gymnasium came alive. As it went into the fourth set it was back and forth between the two teams. But in the end it would ultimately be Stevens who would take the set and the match 25-23 as the Gulls season came to an end.

The Gulls would end with an overall record of 21-11 and the NECC title. The Gulls placed three on All-Conference teams as Bryn Lipton was also named Rookie of the Year. Joining Lipton on the All-Conference First Team was Daniel Toth, Troy Riorden also picked up Second Team honors. Head Coach George Chapel, a 2008 graduate of Endicott, was named NECC Coach of the year in his fifth year as head coach for the program.

Gone but never forgotten will be the seniors on this Men’s Volleyball team. Four NECC Championships, four NCAA appearances, and four years of dedication to the program. Ryan Sutherland, Daniel Toth, and Tyler Willgoos, the entire Endicott Community is thankful for the dynasty that you have left to be carried on by your teammates. Next season the team will look to return to the NECC Championship and claim their sixth straight title.
